CEO & Founder

Luigi Berri

Luigi Berri is the founder and current CEO of Axist.With a solid technical background and years of experience in engineering applied to measurement, he founded Axist in 2001 with the mission of delivering high-precision innovative solutions for the manufacturing industry.

Under his leadership, Axist has become a national benchmark, thanks to a customer-oriented approach and a strong commitment to excellence.

A success story

2001

The company is founded in partnership with the French group F.I.T – ESIC, a leading player in topographic photogrammetry in France.

The company’s activities initially focus on the automotive sector (automotive design and prototypes, tooling and body-in-white lines), as well as on the mould-making and foundry industries.

2004-2008

Axist begins working in the aeronautical sector, becoming a supplier to Alenia and Agusta Elicotteri (now part of the Leonardo Group) as well as to a large share of first-tier subcontractors. The company presents solutions and provides services within all major programmes: Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Aeronavali and Nordam. During these years, Axist is involved in the Airbus project, using laser trackers to automate the aeronautical riveting system for the assembly of the Airbus A380 fuselage, while also delivering dimensional testing and assembly support for the fuselage lamination mandrels of the new Boeing 787. From that point onwards, a team of Axist technicians operates on a permanent basis at the Grottaglie site, where they are also responsible for flight-part measurements and analysis of the collected data. In the same period, the company continues its activities in the automotive sector and, in order to pursue new opportunities, opens its Romanian branch in Sibiu. Axist’s equipment portfolio is expanded with the introduction of a laser radar, complementing the 10 laser trackers already in use within the company. Axist also becomes the Italian distributor of Spatial Analyzer, a software solution recognised as a benchmark in the aeronautical market.

2009-2015

Axist expands its presence into the energy, research, oil & gas and steel markets and, in order to operate alongside the leading industry players, establishes a base in the United Arab Emirates (first in Dubai and later in Abu Dhabi). Its cross-sector presence across different industries and markets enables Axist to introduce new technologies to its clients. During these years, the company complements its service offering with the sale of lay-up projection systems and augmented reality solutions for assembly operations, as well as innovative machines for the processing of aeronautical skins (Dufieux Industries). Axist further strengthens its structure to carry out major research projects either in-house or in collaboration with external partners and institutes. In particular, it becomes a shareholder of the Cetma research centre in Brindisi, focusing on new calibration systems for machine tools and augmented reality systems.

2016

In 2016, Axist expands its activities by adding topography, photogrammetry and aerial photogrammetric surveying services, employing highly skilled engineers and equipping itself with state-of-the-art instruments, software and methodologies. The company operates a dedicated team in Toulouse (FR) responsible for the operational and technical management of non-conformities on the final assembly line of the ATR 72/42. Through Alto LLC, its Abu Dhabi-based subsidiary, Axist is responsible for all measurement activities involved in the construction of the Dubai observation wheel, the largest in the world, with a diameter of 210 m.

In the 2017–2019 period, Axist carries out photogrammetric surveys of the primary mirror of the Sardinia Radio Telescope, which has a diameter of 64 metres. Over the last two years, the R&D department has been further strengthened to develop robotic measurement systems: the robot becomes a fully fledged measuring machine, replacing traditional inspection gauges for in-line production. During the same period, Axist increases its involvement in the ITER programme, working both for suppliers and directly for the organisation at the Cadarache site (FR).

Axist develops an automatic measurement system for CERN in Geneva, designed to measure the magnetic field distribution within large-scale magnets.

2019

The Axist e-commerce project is launched (www.MetrologyStore.com), aimed at the online sale of tools required for measurement instruments. The company also designs and manufactures optical reflector target holders in-house.

2020

With the aim of providing an increasingly integrated service, Axist Robotics is established as the company’s innovative and cutting-edge division, bringing together the world of dimensional testing with that of in-line production. Through the use of standard anthropomorphic robots, the Robotics division delivers a turnkey solution that offers customers multiple advantages within a single system.
