Made in Italy dimensional metrology

Dimensional testing

Axist specialises in high-precision dimensional testing, a crucial phase for ensuring the geometric conformity of components with technical drawings. Inspections are carried out directly at the customer’s premises, using state-of-the-art instruments such as Laser Tracker, articulated arms and photogrammetry.

Thanks to a highly qualified technical team, Axist provides comprehensive consultancy: from selecting the most suitable technology to measurement uncertainty evaluation, through to the design of custom tools for measurement and the preparation of certified reports.

Axist operates across numerous industrial sectors, including:
aeronautics, automotive, space, steelmaking, energy, nuclear physics, marine and petrochemical, standing out as one of the leading references in Europe in the field of industrial metrology.

Measurement automation

Axist has revolutionised measurement automation with AVRIS, an innovative system that uses high-precision anthropomorphic robots to carry out fast and reliable in-line inspections, even in serial production.

The system is designed to replace traditional inspection gauges, offering a flexible alternative, reusable across different part numbers and suited to diverse production orders. Thanks to measurement repeatability below 0.02 mm, combined with kinematic and thermal calibration, AVRIS ensures a reduced volumetric error, meeting the most demanding standards of the manufacturing industry.

Among the applications delivered:
Automatic alignment of M346 fuselage sections for Alenia Aermacchi, in collaboration with Siemens;
Internal scanning of wing boxes and stabilisers for composite aircraft, with OMS.

Axist continues to be a benchmark in metrological automation for sectors such as aeronautics, automotive, energy and Industry 4.0.

Reverse engineering

Axist provides professional Reverse Engineering services for the reconstruction of CAD models starting from physical objects without technical drawings. This solution is ideal for prototype development or the replication of components for which no digital documentation exists.

Thanks to optical 3D digitisation systems, Axist rapidly and accurately acquires point clouds. The data are then processed using solid modelling software by the in-house technical team, generating accurate CAD files ready for production, modification or technical analysis.

Machine programming

Whenever a new product is launched, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) must be reprogrammed. Axist supports its clients with a team of experienced programmers, specialised in managing different CMM families and dedicated software.

Working directly at the customer’s premises, the Axist team delivers tailored solutions for quality control automation, identifying the most effective approach for each specific requirement.

Design, assembly and maintenance of equipment

Axist provides integrated, high value-added services to support companies throughout all phases of quality control and assisted production.

Custom design
Thanks to the expertise of its in-house technical department, Axist designs tailor-made equipment for inspection and assisted assembly, responding promptly to each client’s specific requirements.

Turnkey assembly and maintenance
For large industrial groups, Axist delivers complete solutions, including the overhaul and refurbishment of production equipment, ensuring operational continuity and reliability.

Multidisciplinary technical team
In addition to dimensional inspection specialists, Axist employs industrial electricians, PLC programmers and specialised technicians to ensure efficient installation and accurate maintenance of systems.

Non-conformity management

Axist provides aeronautical companies with a team of specialised technicians dedicated to Quality Control activities in compliance with the main industry standards.

Services include:

Quality system audits in accordance with the ISO/EN 9100 standard.

Supplier qualification for special processes.

Periodic audits to maintain process qualification.

First Article Inspection (FAI).

Source inspection at suppliers’ facilities for part release.

Non-conformity management, including the issuance of MRR documentation for Boeing projects.

Thanks to the expertise of its technical staff, Axist ensures comprehensive support fully compliant with aerospace standards.

Training

Thanks to strong metrological know-how and extensive hands-on experience, Axist represents a strategic partner in the training of in-house personnel. Companies across the main manufacturing sectors rely on Axist to achieve operational autonomy in the use of measuring machines, both fixed and portable.

Axist is also a certified training provider for New River Kinematics products, with particular expertise in teaching the Spatial Analyzer software, including advanced programming modes.

3D laser scanning

3D laser scanning is an advanced measurement technology that enables the fast and accurate survey of complex geometries, even on articulated surfaces that are difficult to inspect.

Through successive scans constrained to reference topographic targets, the laser scanner captures the object in all its three dimensions (X, Y, Z) with very high accuracy. The result is a three-dimensional point cloud, a digital representation made up of millions of coordinates that precisely reproduce the object’s morphology and actual dimensions, also including RGB colour information.

Originally developed for industrial applications, this technology is now used across a wide range of fields: from quality control to prototyping, from reverse engineering to the digital documentation of complex components.

Drone services

Axist carries out specialised operations using remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), commonly known as drones, relying on qualified experts and advanced technologies.

Depending on the sensor installed on board, our professional drones enable us to offer clients a range of high-precision services, including:

– Precision aerial photogrammetry
– Thermographic surveys
– Aerial technical inspections
– High-definition aerial photography and video

These solutions are ideal for industrial, civil and infrastructure applications, ensuring efficiency, safety and rapid execution even in complex or hard-to-access environments.

Applied topography

Axist carries out planimetric, altimetric and geometric surveys of projects on a national and international scale, using latest-generation equipment: total stations, GNSS satellite receivers, 3D laser scanners and professional drones.

The topographic teams specialise in site assistance activities, providing services such as:

– Layout of large-scale works and complex structures
– Surveys for work progress reports (SAL)
– Volumetric analyses and as-built surveys

Axist also carries out monitoring and levelling activities to study spatial variations over time of points and structural components through reference benchmarks.
